Who We Are
Welcome to Maison Du Lab. By way of introduction, our journey began with a shared love for the craftsmanship, aesthetic brilliance and innovation which, in combination, create timeless pieces that are representative of their design era. In a world where design has become monotonously monochromatic and monothematic we find joy in the diversity of color, material and pattern - all while crossing time periods and cultural and geographic boundaries. However, our collection isn’t merely an assemblage of random beautiful items; each object has been chosen based on its “honesty” vis a vis the time in which it was created, how it stands compared to other similar objects of that period, and, finally, how the object interacts with the entirety of the collection. This collector-designer philosophy is not new but it is a manifestation of our shared philosophy and a tribute to the diverse world of art and design.
Mid-Century furniture figures prominently in our collection. This design era features simple designs and materials that emphasize functionality while exuding a sense of sophistication and showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that defined the era. The enduring popularity of Mid-Century furniture and lighting lies in their versatility and timelessness - whether integrated into a contemporary setting or blended with other vintage pieces, these designs effortlessly bridge the gap between the past and the present, infusing spaces with an air of sophistication and nostalgia. Iconic designers in our collection include our Kagan, Tobia Scarpa, Gio Ponti , Buffa, Charlotte Perriand, Mies van Der Robe and others.
But our passion does not begin and end with Mid-Century furniture. It also extends to the richness of American History encapsulated in Americana antiques. Each piece is a reflection of our cultural heritage and we have curated this collection on a criteria based on authenticity, provenance, design and color.
That same criteria serves us in our love for collecting the exquisite artistry of the Caucasus region, where antique Caucasian carpets are meticulously handwoven with skill and dedication. These timeless masterpieces feature vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and symbolism that reveal the stories and traditions of the people who crafted them. We take pride in preserving and showcasing these stunning rugs, celebrating the cultural diversity and artistic brilliance that they represent.
