1950s First Edition Charlotte Perriand "Les Arcs" Chairs in Original Leather- Set of 4
First Edition set of four steel “Les Arcs” dining chairs designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1950's featuring a raw metal frame and leather seats with thick black saddle leather. These chairs are very rare examples whose frames are raw metal, as opposed to the later Cassina editions in painted or chromed metal, with a variation of the sling design. The leather seats are more minimal than the later examples with less snaps / attachments sewn into the seat to connect the leather to the frame. All original condition. Due to age and use there are some traces and spots visible on the leather and steel giving these chairs a beautiful patina.
Documentation authenticating the provenance and originality of the chairs will be provided upon purchase. Custom made black leather pillows compliment these chairs and will be included in the purchase.
French architect and designer, Charlotte Perriand, ''one of the most influential designers of the Modern Movement'', helped design the ski resorts of Les Arcs in Savoie with Le Corbusier in the 60s and selected these beautiful chairs for use there, known also as one of the largest built projects of Charlotte Perriand's (1903-1999) career. In a New York Times article published on August 2nd, 2021 Les Arcs was voted as one of "The 25 Most Significant Works of Postwar Architecture" by a group of three architects, three journalist and 2 designers. A very collectable set whose prices are beginning to reflect their true value
