1950s Ico Parisi Architectural and Sculptural Double-Wide Ebonized and Blond Wood
Very Rare architectural and sculptural double wide console by Ico Parisi contrasting two different woods, ebonized and blond, with glass top manufactured in 1954 by Fratelli Rizzi. Originally designed as single width console in 1950's for the Villa L. a Cernobbio, this console is a fine example of Parisi's ongoing exploration of structurally complex shapes created using minimal sections and joints.
Like in its original design, this monumental double width console features as main element the curved strip of wood that passes through the rear legs, protruding out the other side by a few centimeters. At its top, the ebonized strip bends over itself towards the front, holding up the glass tabletop, trapezoidal in shape. This wave shaped piece of wood brings stability to its sleek structure, composed of asymmetrical trestles joined by small slats (under the tabletop and the other at the base) while splitting at the edges. Elegantly designed and of highest craftsmanship, the front legs slant outwards and support the glass sheet.
